Arnga (WA)
|
| | Location | South of the Forrest River; on King and Pentecost rivers, extending along the western side of Wyndham Gulf to the Durack River, but going no farther inland than the lower ends of the river gorges; their language is different from that of the Kitja tribe. The horde known as ['Bugai':] is sometimes claimed as belonging to the Jeidji tribe. The Guragona horde of the Wenambal is said to be 'very close' to the Arnga. Davidson (1938) treated the term Arawodi as if it warranted tribal status. |

This information is reproduced from NB Tindale's Aboriginal Tribes of Australia (1974). Please be aware that much of the data relating to Aboriginal language group distribution and definition has undergone revision since 1974. Please note also that this catalogue represents Tindale's attempt to depict Aboriginal tribal distribution at the time of European contact. |
