Series AA 52/6 comprises prints, negatives and slides relating to Campbell's archaeological and anthropological fieldwork and research in Australia. These are housed in 10 photo albums. The series includes the following items: Album 1 Comprises 57 black and white (b/w) photographs (13x8 cm) taken during Campbell's expedition to Cooper Creek in 1920. The photographs have been pasted onto brown cards with typed captions and are numbered 1-64. Some photographs are missing. The album includes landscape scenes in the Flinders Ranges, Marree, Lake Harry date plantation, landscape scenes near Clayton, Cooper Creek, Killalpaninna Mission, Etadinna Station and Lake Ngalangalannie. The album also includes photographs of two Aboriginal men, Herman and Camel Dick, demonstrating the use of stone tools and an Aboriginal child, Willie, the step-son of Flash Baldy. Album 2 Photographs taken during Campbell's expeditions to Millers Creek in 1921 and Stuart Range in 1923. The album contains 62 b/w photographs (13x8 cm) and three nirtate negatives taken on the Miller's Creek expedition. These have been pasted onto brown cards with typed captions and are numbered 1-62. The photographs include views of Bon Bon Homestead, Aboriginal people on Mt Eba Station, Millers Creek Station, Woolnomulla Waterhole, Bamboo Swamp, Coward Springs, 'The Bubbler', Farina and the Flinders Ranges. The photographs include several of an Aboriginal man, George Mitchell, 'son of the last king of the Kukata tribe', demonstrating the use of stone tools. Album 2 also contains 64 b/w photographs (14x8 cm) and eight negatives taken on the Stuart Range expedition. These have been pasted onto cards with typed captions, and are numbered 1-63. They include views of Bon Bon and Mt Eba homesteads, Brumby Creek and the Stuart Range Opal Field, as well as photographs of Aboriginal people. The nitrate negatives listed above in Album 2 have been removed and placed in a separate album (Album 12) in the fridge. Album 3 Photographs taken during expeditions to Pearson Islands in 1923 and Flinders Island in 1924. The album contains 75 b/w photographs (14x8 cm) taken during the Pearson Islands expedition. These have been pasted onto cards with handwritten captions and are numbered 1-76 (including two sketch maps). The photographs include landscape scenes on the island, as well as fauna and flora and collecting activities by the members of the expedition. The album also contains 25 loose prints (including some duplicates), with no captions, taken on Pearson Islands. The album contains 15 b/w prints (14x8 cm) taken during the Flinders Island expedition, including landscape scenes and stick-nest rat nests. These have been pasted onto cards with typed captions, and are numbered 1-16 (including one sketch map). The album also includes 28 b/w prints (14x8 cm) of landscape scenes on Flinders Island, the expedition's base-camp and specimen-collecting activities by the members of the party. Album 4 This album contains ten nitrate negatives (11x8 cm) labelled 'J-A 33', numbers 103-5, 107, 109, 116-8, evidently taken in the Mann Range by NB Tindale or C Hackett during the Board for Anthropological Research expedition to Ernabella in 1933. The photographs depict Aboriginal men preparing stone artefacts, and decorating each other for ceremonial purposes. The album also contains 24 nitrate negatives (12x10 cm) taken during the BAR expedition to Warburton Range (WA) in 1935. These include landscape scenes at Minnie Creek and Aboriginal ceremonial activities. Album 4 also contains 82 nitrate negatives (6x9 cm) taken during the BAR expedition to Hermannsburg Mission (NT) in 1929. The latter include landscape scenes at Marree, William Creek and Alice Springs and landscape scenes in the MacDonnell Ranges (including Glen Helen, Koperilya Springs, Jays Creek and Palm Valley), as well as domestic and camp scenes at Hermannsburg. There are also numerous negatives of ceremonial activities at Hermannsburg. This album includes a number of restricted images. Album 4 is housed in the fridge. Album 5 This album contains miscellaneous photographic prints and negatives relating to Central Australia, including the following items: - One b/w print (16x11 cm) of Aboriginal women and children and a white man at Ooldea, probably 1926.

- Two copies of b/w print (11x6 cm) of an Aboriginal man standing by a 'churinga quarry' at Oorabbra Rockhole, about 300 km east-north-east of Alice Springs.
- Another b/w print (11x6 cm) of the Aboriginal man at the 'churinga quarry' at Oorabbra Rockhole (see above). This print has been mounted on paper with a caption identifying the Aboriginal man as 'Arltunga Bob'.
- Seven b/w prints (various sizes), evidently relating to the BAR expedition to Hermannsburg Mission (NT) in 1929, including landscape scenes at Koperilya Springs and Hugh Creek, and a photo of 19 Aboriginal men, with their bodies painted for a ceremony, standing on a sandhill. The caption on the reverse indicates that the photo was taken by HA Heinrich, probably at Hermannsburg Mission. Also includes one postcard produced by Marchant's Studio (Tanunda, SA) of Hermannsburg Mission.
- Seven b/w prints (11x8 cm, including one duplicate) taken during BAR expedition to Hermannsburg in 1929; individual subject photographs of Eva, Percy, Claudia, Eugenie and Veronica, plus one group photo of 'the girls'.
- Photograph clipping from an Adelaide newspaper of Dr Clark Wissler and Prof ER Embree (from the Rockefeller Foundation, USA) after their arrival in Adelaide in November 1925. Also shown in the photograph are TD Campbell, Prof JB Cleland, ER Waite, Sir Douglas Mawson and Dr RH Pulleine.
- Four b/w prints (14x8 cm) probably taken by Samuel Gason. The prints show Aboriginal men preparing for a 'sham fight', a view of the flooded Cooper Creek near Lake Kopperamanna, Aboriginal skeletal remains near Cooper Creek and Aboriginal stone artefacts.

- Sixteen b/w negatives taken by Campbell during an expedition to Giles Meteorological Station in the Rawlinson Range (WA) in 1962. Includes photographs of landscape scenes, Aboriginal people, rock art sites and stone arrangements.

Album 6 This album contains historical photographs and illustrations collected by Campbell. It includes the following items: - Two b/w prints (10x8 cm, mounted on card) of an Aboriginal man named Onmanillo at Point McLeay. The photo was evidently taken by Prof. Wood Jones.

- One b/w print (13x10 cm) of two Aboriginal men, seated. The photo was probably taken at an Aboriginal camp in Victor Harbor or Goolwa.
- One b/w print (17x12 cm), plus one duplicate, of six Aboriginal men and one woman in front of a wurley, probably in Victor Harbor or Goolwa.
- Sixty-nine b/w prints (various sizes) evidently obtained by Campbell from Dr WD Walker (see AA 357). The photographs include landscape scenes such as The Cobbler Sandhills north of Farina (SA), McDouall Peak Station (SA) and Koperilya Springs, Palm Valley and Emily Gap (NT). The photographs also include Aboriginal hunting scenes and other activities, some photographs of Aboriginal children in the 'Bungalow' in Alice Springs and numerous photographs of diseased and sick Aboriginal individuals in the Northern Territory. Album 7 This album contains photographs and negatives relating to Campbell's archaeological fieldwork in the south-east of South Australia. It includes the following items: - Twenty-two b/w prints (6x6 cm) and sixty-seven negatives (6x6 cm) from a set labelled 'Negatives and prints of 1947 trip, SE-Vict'. The negatives are numbered 1-72; some negatives are missing. The prints are captioned on the reverse, and include views of an Aboriginal archaeological site at Hood's Drift (SA), and landscape scenes in the Grampians and in the Lorne area in Victoria.
- Twenty-nine b/w prints (various sizes), including some duplicates, and 10 negs (9x6 cm); unidentified views of Aboriginal sites, archaeological excavations and landscape scenes in the South-East of South Australia.
- Seven b/w prints (10x7 cm) from envelope labelled 'Arch, SE - Bevilaqua Cliffs etc'; the prints show archaeological excavations at the Bevilaqua Cliff site.
- Composite b/w print (16x7 cm) mounted on card and captioned 'Mt Graham. Note marine high-level shelf'.
- One b/w print (16x16 cm) showing an eroded mound with layers of Turbo shells. Location unknown.
- Thirty-two b/w prints (17x17 cm), including some duplicates, and one b/w print (25x20 cm) of unidentified Aboriginal archaeological sites and landscape scenes in the South-East. Several of the prints have handwritten captions; these include views of Cape Northumberland and the Woakwine Range.

Album 9 This album of slides includes the following items: - Thirty-five slides taken during Campbell's trip to Tallaringa, west of Coober Pedy, in April-May 1964.
- Forty-five glass slides taken during trip to Giles Meteorological Station (WA) in 1962. The slides are numbered 1-64; some slides in the series are missing. The slides include landscape views in the Musgrave Range (SA) and in the Rawlinson Range and Walter James Range in WA, as well as Aboriginal scarred trees and rock art sites.
- Twenty-one film slides taken during trip to Giles Meteorological Station (WA) in 1962.
Nine film slides labelled as Giles Meteorological Station (WA), 1958, including photos of Aboriginal people.- Thirteen film slides taken during trip to Pearson Island in 1960.

- Five film slides of fossil swamp bed near Blackfellows' Cave, south-east of South Australia.
- Six film slides of Aboriginal stone arrangements including sites at Finke (NT), Observatory Hill (Maralinga Prohibited Area) and Arcoona, and one slide of European engraved motifs on a rock in north-eastern SA.
- Eleven b/w film slides in set marked 'Implement types', showing of Aboriginal stone and glass artefacts.
- Twelve film slides (two b/w, ten colour) in set marked 'Making implements', showing Aboriginal people preparing stone artefacts. The colour slides were probably taken by Campbell at Yuendumu (NT).
Album 10 This album contains prints from scans of the nitrate negatives in Album 11. Most of these prints lack captions or other identification. Album 10 includes numerous prints taken at Mulgerannie, Mulka and other locations along the Birdsville Track (see, for example, Images #007-052, #065-071, #091-167) apparently obtained by Campbell from George Aiston, the policeman at Mungerannie from 1912-1924 (see AA 003). The album also contains a number of negatives of Mungerannie Station apparently taken by Campbell (see Images #185-199). The album also includes a number of negatives of a tree near Wilgena which has been painted with stripes for ceremonial purposes (see Images #060-063), some taken in Central Australia (see, for example, Images #124, 170-174) and some historical photographs of Aboriginal people (see, for example, Images #075-089). Album 11 This album contains 181 nitrate negatives, mainly from the Birdsville Track area, and from other locations in South Australia and the Northern Territory (see Album 10 above). Album 11 is housed in the fridge. Album 12 This album contains 114 nitrate negatives of photo prints from Albums 2, 5 and 7. Album 12 is housed in the fridge. This series contains references to the following South Australian regions: Adelaide - Mount Lofty Ranges; Nullarbor - Great Victoria Desert; North West; North Central; North East; Flinders Ranges; Central East; South East; River Murray - Coorong; Eyre Peninsula. This series contains references to: Northern Territory; Victoria; Western Australia. This series contains references to the following named groups: 'Crystal Brook tribe'; 'Adelaide tribe'.
