This series comprises supplementary papers created and/or collected by Tindale relating to the expeditions and visits. These records are in addition to the journals (see series AA 338/1) and were usually stored by Tindale in Kodak X-Ray Film boxes. Records include rough field notes, printed and hand drawn maps and diagrams, newspaper clippings, reports, specimen drawings and descriptions, reprints and so forth. Supplementary papers do not exist for all journals and the quantities can vary. Most of the papers were given a title by Tindale. However, a number are untitled. Supplementary papers were usually cross-referenced to the journals.

'Proposals for Expedition to Northern Territory'

This item includes handwritten and carbon copy lists of items required for the Groote Eylandt expedition and handwritten notes or possible draft proposal.

This item includes newspaper clippings, handwritten and typescript copy notes and figures for publication including two from Tindale's 1928 paper: 'Native Rock Shelters at Oenpelli, Van Diemen Gulf, North Australia', published in Records of the South Australian Museum, 9(2). Also contains a hand-drawn map showing distribution of tribes for the West Coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria, with data by Tindale, Spencer, Schmidt, Stretton, Foelsche (Curr), Mathews, Basedow (see AA 22) and Parkhouse (see AA 247). A list of specimens 1-407 collected on the Groote Eylandt expedition includes descriptions.

'Collecting trip to Groote Eylandt'

This is a photocopy of a 'Public Library, Museum and Art Gallery of South Australia' docket copied from State Records (see GRG 19/55/1921/232). The docket includes reports, correspondence, expenditure, proposal, minutes of Board meetings extracts, application for leave of absence, list of supplies taken, and agreement between the Board and Tindale.

'Groote Eylandt field book of mainly biological specimens for registration'

Tindale lists parcels of specimens sent to the South Australian Museum, bird numbers, missing mammals, metal tags - spirit specimens, plant notes and numbers, and orchid notes. Most of the original sheets have been removed, leaving the carbon copy. Included is a letter from Gerald Hill of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to the Director of the South Australian Museum regarding termites, dated 30 August 1929, 2 blank paper tags, and a magazine clipping dated 31 October 1934.

'Iliaura Tribe-Vital Statistics etc. Norman B. Tindale'

The information in these handwritten pages was recorded at Macdonald Downs, Central Australia, during the Board for Anthropological Research (see AA 346) expedition of August to September 1930, and relate to members of the Iliaura tribe. After introductory discussion of population and geography, Tindale lists 61 individuals, their names, age, marital status, siblings and children, and then discusses family size and composition.

Note that 'Song Records' relating to this expediton, previously numbered AA 338/2/23, have been moved to AA 338/12/1/1.

This item is a typescript carbon copy listing Mornington Islanders numerically (1-110), showing blood sample number, sex, name, tribe, birth place, age, father's and mother's tribe, father's and mother's birthplace and individual's expedition number (e.g. B.I.6). The data was compiled by Peter Aitken and Tindale, and the list has been annotated by Tindale.

Each individual was given an 'AN' expedition identifier followed by a number from 1-46. Information recorded includes sex, name, tribe, birth place, age, father's and mother's tribe, father's and mother's birthplace, affiliations and range of movements.
