Description

This series comprises one black and white (b/w) photograph, probably taken by Ernest E Kramer (see AA 669). The photograph dated Aug 1929 depicts a group of Australian Aboriginal women and infants. Note that this photograph shows unidentified people. The print is stored unmounted in a binder titled 'AA 1 Aborigines' Friends' Association (AFA) Photographic Prints, Album 3 of 4'.

South Australian Museum archivist Kay L Mead described this series in 1980. In her listing she recorded a caption for this series but the exact source of the caption is not known. The caption has been retained as the 'Series Title'. All place names and proper names from the annotations and caption have been indexed. All of the annotations and ink stamps found on the print have been listed in the 'Details' field of the inventory.

The series was part of Acc. No. 86.

Image: Front view of four young mothers each holding an infant. Two of the mothers are breast feeding their babies. The image appears to have been double exposed on the left side but the second image is indistinct.

Annotations: '4 Young Mothers at Middleton Ponds, one Hath Quadroon Husband - All are semi wild Luritjas - just in stage of Transition from Nudity to Clothes & - Rags- Aug 1929.'

Captioned: 'Middleton Ponds'.

Other information: This photograph probably taken by the missionary, Ernest E Kramer (see AA 669), see Series AA 1/25/1 for handwriting sample with a signature. Photographic paper is marked 'VELOX' repeated diagonally and 'KODAK PRINT'.
